blanket finished

It's done. The joining is really wonky in some places but that just means I need to practise more. I used Carina's tutorial for joining it all together. It's not a very big blanket, big enough for my youngest daughter, 5 squares by 5 squares.

Now I need to make the oldest a blanket. I haven't decided if I want to try another granny square blanket or something new. It will probably have to be a granny, so I don't have to deal with any fighting. I love how my girls fight over anything and everything.

the letter 'G'

I've been wanting to get a big letter 'G' for our living room wall for awhile now, I've had a hard time finding exactly what I wanted. I love monograms.

I decided finally to use some cork board that I've had laying around to make it myself. I printed out a big letter on my printer, taped it to the cork board and used an exacto knife to cut it out.

It took me awhile to figure out exactly where I wanted it to go and have it look good. I finally settled on putting it on top of one of my favorite prints. I think it looks really great where it is now. I'm so excited to finally have a monogram up!

teething toy

Yesterday I found this project and knew right away I had to make a couple for Zach. He's been getting cranky these last few days with teeth trying to pop through. Making these were very fast and easy, under an hour fast! They didn't turn out as round as I had hoped they would but they still do the trick.

Zach love to chew on them and throw them. They are much better when you get them wet and freeze them for a bit. Here's one in action:

YUM!

new to me blogs

I've been stumbling across so many amazing blogs lately that aren't really new (I think) but they're new to me so I thought I'd share the links to a few of them.

Katherine Marie Photography - She was featured on The Creative Mama last week and I just had to bookmark her! Katherine has amazing photography and really clever ideas. This post really reeled me in, the pictures of it make me want to have a drive in movie party of my own!

Creative Parties & Showers - If you're throwing a party and are looking for inspiration, this site is chock full of it! Even if you aren't, browsing this site will make you want to.

Vale Design - This is a great website full of DIY projects, freebies and more. A must view!

Domestifluff - Food and craft, a perfect combo. I need to try out some of the recipes over there, the pictures make everything look so yummy.

ps. I got the idea to do this from Jenni over at Simple Beans.

the time traveler's wife

I just finished this one last night, I was sad to have it end. When I first started this book, I thought there was no way I could get into it, it seemed so confusing. But, after the first few pages, it got less confusing and I didn't want to put it down. I was talking to a friend the other day about books we were reading right now and she wanted to know what this one was about. I wasn't sure how to explain it, I think the title of the book really says it, The Time Traveler's Wife, that's what it's about, a time traveler and his wife. Of course, it does get more involved than that but you just have to read it for yourself.

grannying along

I'm making granny squares! They're not exactly what I had planned on making but I will make those another time I guess. I wanted to use up the yarn I got from the Summer Swap awhile ago. The first few squares turned out cute.

And then I ran out and there's no store here that sells the same type of yarn I was using, so I ended up buying Bernat yarn. Now the squares are looking like this. Sorry for the blurry picture, guess I was in a hurry.

I was not liking the squares at all but they'll do I guess. They look a bit like that candy that I can't remember the name of. I'm sure it will all turn out fine in the end. I love making granny squares! I've got 13 made now, not sure how many to go. I need enough to make a decent sized blanket for my daughter.

nineteen minutes

This is the third book I've read by author Jodi Picoult and now I'm really starting to enjoy her writing. Maybe the first one I read by her was read at not a good time for me, I might pick that one up again and see if I enjoy it more.

I read about this book on another blog some time ago and instantly went out and bought it. I can't remember where I saw it, sorry. Nineteen Minutes is about a high school shooting, not exactly an upbeat, cheerful book. I enjoyed all the characters and I even felt bad for the shooter, a bit anyway. The end was unexpected, I enjoy those kind of endings, I'm not a fan of the predictable all the time. The book takes you through the day of the shooting and also the aftermath and the trial. If you want to read a book that will get hook you right in, read this one.

a cute outfit we won

I won a giveaway from Dana over at Made not too long ago. I was really excited to be able to pick out which skirt I wanted, since Lizzy's favorite color is yellow, I was so happy to get that one! I love the outfit, Lizzy adores it too! Thank you so much Dana for making my little girl happy.

granny square blanket

I finished this blanket last week, it took 4 small balls of yarn. It's not perfect but for my first ever crochet project I never expected it to be. Someone once told me that once you start making granny squares it can get quite addicting, they were totally right! It was so relaxing to make that granny square that I did not want to stop. I plan on making the girls their own granny square blanket soon, not that same as Zach got, more like a regular granny square blanket. I am so glad that I gave crocheting another try, I am hooked now!
